don't tempt f8, your txt can w8

After watching my tivoed Oprah, I went onto oprah.com and pledged to make my vehicle a no phone zone. Studies have shown that talking and driving are the same as drunk driving. With both drunk driving and talk on the phone, you are 4 times more likely to get in a wreck.
If you are texting and driving, you are 8 times more likely to get in a wreck.
I watched how many lives have been taken because of people texting or talking on the phone while driving. I cried throughout the episode. (many parents who have lost children) Please join me and make your vehicle a no phone zone. If you are not totally convinced, go watch the episode on oprah.com.
I must admit that I am guilty of this. Not so much the texting, but the phone talking. I am pledging to quit.
Remember the good ol' days, when you left the house an no one could get a hold of you? You arrived home and checked the answering machine, and somehow we were all fine and it worked.

true so true. i watched it too and was appalled at the danger i've been putting my kiddos in. i was especially touched by the utah kid and his story.

It is illegal in Oregon to talk or text on your phone and we have gotten some dirty looks when we talk on the phone while driving since they passed the law. still though, it is going to take some getting used to.

Okay, so, I'm not an Oprah regular, but happened to catch this one and cried through the whole thing too. Oh my gosh those were sad stories!

Then, I also made a pledge (told my kids so they will keep me honest). I've never texted while driving, but it was my favorite time to talk on the phone. Then, I realized that, even if I feel like it is safe for me to talk on the phone while driving, do I want to set that example for my kids who might think it's okay to talk (or, heaven forbid - text) when they are inexperienced, new drivers?
